2025 Board of Directors
Laurel White (President)
Laurel received a doctorate in educational leadership in 2017 from Seattle University. She holds a master's degree as an SLP from WSU, a postgraduate diploma in TESOL from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and administration credentials from CWU. Laurel participated in ASHA's Leadership Development Program for public schools in 2015. She is part of ASHA's Special Interest Groups 1, 11, 12, 14, 16 and 18.
Teryl Wood (President-Elect)
Teryl pivoted to become an SLP from her previous field in linguistics when her middle son was diagnosed with ASD, in 2002. Since then, she has earned her SLPD and has worked in a variety of settings. Teryl currently serves adults receiving home health in Kitsap and Western Pierce Counties and is working on her EdD dissertation with Northeastern University. Her passions include learning, travel, gardening, farming, and everything outdoors.
Deirdre Curle (Immediate Past President)
Deirdre Curle has been an SLP for 25 years. She received her Master's degree in Communication Disorders from the University of New Mexico, and a PhD in Special Education from the University of British Columbia. She works for the Washington Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children and is an adjunct professor for UBC's teacher of the deaf program. Deirdre lives in Seattle.
Lindsay Williams (Treasurer)
Lindsay Williams is currently a Lecturer and the Offsite Placement Coordinator for Eastern Washington University. Before joining EWU in 2008, Lindsay worked in acute care at Deaconess Medical Center and Valley Hospital in Spokane.
As a board member, she hopes to contribute to the development of policies and initiatives that support the professional growth and well-being of speech-language pathologists while improving the overall quality of services for those in need.
H.T. Gloria Lam (Secretary)
Gloria Lam is a trilingual pediatric SLP from Singapore. She earned her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington in 2019 and currently works with the birth-to-three population in Spokane county. Gloria is passionate about supporting children of all ages from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
As Secretary and liaison to the Communications Committee of WSLHA, she is committed to fostering open and timely communication among members, the community, and the board. In her free time, Gloria enjoys traveling and discovering new places and experiences with her loved ones.
Caitlin Schlosser (Member at Large)
Caitlin has been a practicing, acute care SLP for over eight years in the Seattle area.
Her practice focus is on dysphagia and communication needs in post-stroke, critically ill, and end-of-life patients. She is a current ASHA Leadership Development student, actively working on a project to enhance fundraising and scholarship opportunities for WSLHA.
Beyond her professional and WSLHA commitments, she enjoys outdoor activities with her husband and two dogs (a Shiba Inu named Misha and a Samoyed named Lumi). With her deep-rooted commitment to patient care, community service, and leadership development, she am eager to contribute as a member-at-large to further the mission and initiatives of WSHA.
Kate Pilant (Clinical Practice Representative)
Kate Pilant is a private practice owner and practitioner based in Seattle, WA, and has worked in both the private practice and public school settings. Experiencing firsthand the challenges of operating and maintaining a practice, particularly one that accepts insurance, she hopes to continue building clinical community across the state and to be a strong advocate for the needs of WA clinicians.
Rachel Dotson Stokes (Education Practice Representative)
Rachel is a graduate of Reed College (B.A. Psychology) and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (M.A. Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences). She is currently a school-based SLP in the Puyallup School District. In addition to serving on the WSLHA school committee, Rachel is the current board education representative and strategic plan manager. She is also part of the ASHA Leadership Development Program school-based cohort for 2024-2025.
Del Bayartsogt (Student Representative)
Del Bayartsogt MPA,. As part of a team that initiated a newborn hearing screening program in Mongolia, Del developed a passion for early intervention and hearing health, inspiring her to pursue further studies. In 2022, she moved to Seattle and is now enrolled in UW's Medical Speech-Language Pathology program.
Del is deeply committed to advocacy and aims to support Washington State students and her community through initiatives that promote inclusivity in education and health care.
