Abstract:
This course will educate speech-language pathologists across settings (clinical, educational or private practice) about the existing codes of professional conduct in the Revised Code of Washington (RCS) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and how they align or differ from the 2016 ASHA Code of Ethics.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
Define ethics and terminology associated with ethics.
State codes of professional conduct pertaining to SLPs in Washington State and 2016 ASHA Code of Ethics.
Describe the application of the above ethical guidelines to issues in practice settings.
Deirdre Curle, Ph.D., received her M,S., in Communication Disorders from the University of New Mexico and her PhD in Special Education from the University of British Columbia. She has practiced as an SLP in clinical and educational settings with children and adults. Deirdre has been actively involved with WSLHA since 2010 and serves on the board as Member-at-Large. Deirdre currently provides consultation and evaluation services for deaf or hard of hearing children through the Washington Center for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Youth (CDHY).
