Date: Tuesday, June 8, 2021
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Online via Zoom
Presenter: Sue Stillman Linja, RDN, LD
Abstract: SLP’s and RD’s across the globe are challenged with learning a new system for dysphagia management - the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI). IDDSI was endorsed for implementation in the United States in 2019 and while some implemented early, the pandemic hit and left others struggling to even get started with the initiative. The research shows IDDSI provides the safest diet textures and liquid consistencies for your clients, so if you haven’t implemented this initiative yet, now is the time. Everyone is doin’ it!
This webinar will describe “best practice” expectations for implementation of IDDSI across the continuum of care. A discussion of the IDDSI framework overview along with recommended steps to successful implementation (no matter where you are in the process) will be provided. A IDDSI testing of foods will be demonstrated and you will get the chance to taste and test your own foods in this interactive session.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
Describe the IDDSI framework, changes needed in systems/processes and the rationale for use by SLP’s across the continuum of care.
State the nutrition, hydration and food service challenges associated with preparation and serving of IDDSI diets and liquids.
Participate in tasting and testing of IDDSI foods/drinks in your own home/workplace for a better understanding of this initiative’s standards.
