Providing School-Based SLP Services During the Pandemic : Join the Discussion

Date: August 25th, 2020

Time: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Online via Zoom

Presenter: Deirdre Curle, PhD, CCC-SLP

Abstract:

In response to the world-wide COVID-19 pandemic, many school districts in Washington State will start the school year online. Others will be trying out various models involving social distancing and hybrid online/face-to-face approaches. WSLHA invites SLPs to come together and discuss teletherapy resources, safety precautions, scheduling logistics, and communication with stakeholders (i.e., parents, teachers, administrators). Participants will meet online via Zoom and participate in small group / breakout rooms to share information and discuss strategies for the purpose of gathering information to prepare for the 2020-21 school year.

Learning Objectives:

(a)  Participants will be able to describe teletherapy resources available to SLPs that can be used to enhance or support student learning.

(b)  Participants will be able to state safety precautions for in-person assessments for therapy.

(c)  Participants will be able to state scheduling logistics for online, in-person, or hybrid situations.

(d)  Participants will be able to report ways to effectively communicate with stakeholders (parents, teachers, administrators) to support effective service provision and student learning.
