WSLHA is offering a two part series April 3 and April 10th, regarding assessment and treatment of adults with acquired cognitive deficits. Please join us for one or both sessions!

Abstract Intermediate Level

Individuals suffering from acquired cognitive changes are often struggling to understand, cope and manage their persistent deficits. More than half of patients with mTBI often go unidentified or undiagnosed in hospital Emergency Departments. Patients who go undiagnosed may be at a higher risk for a complicated recovery. This “Miserable Minority” often feel isolated and unsupported by medical professionals, family membesr and colleagues. Speech-Language Pathologists are ideal candidates in providing holistic services to help these individuals achieve improvement and satisfying outcomes. Learn how to identify impaired cognitive processes, treat with engaging approaches and bring hope to this population.

Learning Objectives: After completion of this course the participants will be able to:

  1. Identify assessments that are available to help identify subtle impaired processes.

  2. State new resources and strategies to address an individual’s impaired processes.

  3. Discuss the scope of this populations’ needs and how best to meet them.

Channa Beckman M.A., CCC-SLP/CBIS, is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and a Speech-Language Pathologist that is certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and licensed in multiple states. She received her Master of Arts in Speech- Language Pathology from Florida State University. She shares with us over 30 years of experience devoted to the treatment of acquired brain injury. Channa founded Harbor Speech Pathology, started the Gig Harbor Brain Injury Networking Group and has served on the board for the Washington State Speech-Language Hearing Association. Channa’s areas of expertise include: brain injury, neurologic disorders, swallowing dysfunction, adult speech and language disorders, LSVT, DriveABLE, and Vital Stim. She is dedicated to advocating and providing quality care for all patients across the life span.

This course is offered for up to 0.30 ASHA CEUs, (Intermediate level, Professional area).

OSPI Clock Hours - up to 3 hours will be offered

WSLHA charges a processing fee of $5.00 for ASHA CEUs ($7.00 non-members) and $5.00 for clock hours payable prior to the workshop.

Credits must be purchased prior to the program. Any requests for credits after the date of each workshop will be denied.
