Presenters: Susan Stewart, MS, CCC-SLP and Calina Van Pelt , MS, CCC-SLP


Susan Stewart, M.S. CCC-SLP, has practiced across settings ranging from Seattle Children’s Hospital, public schools, and 21 years in private practice. She specializes in social-emotional communication and supporting clients and families in developing this conceptual knowledge. She addresses ethics, neurodiversity, and research (including exciting advances in neuroscience) and how they interact to inform our intervention. She is level 2 certified DIR through Profectum, and Hanen certified in It Takes Two to Talk®. She holds a Fellowship in DIR Model and the Foundational Capacities for Development (FCD) as a Profectum Professional in Speech and Language Pathology and has completed the Preschool Autism Communication Training: Level 2 Certification which is a theory based, parent-mediated program out of the UK. Susan advocates the work of SLPs to both propel our field forward and educate the community about the importance of our field across the age span. She received her B.S. from Colorado State University and M.S. from the University of Washington.

Calina VanPelt, M.S. CCC-SLP, has worked in private practice for over a decade serving children 2 – 18+ years old. She works with autistic individuals as well as children with early literacy, language, social/pragmatic, and speech-sound disorders. She specializes in emotional regulation. She spent 18 months working as a SLP and mentoring new graduates in Wollongong, Australia. She returned to work at Lynnwood Speech and Language Services in spring of 2019. Calina received her bachelors and master of science degrees in speech-language pathology from the University of Nevada, Reno, and has completed the professional certification through Profectum DIR Floortime. Calina has also completed training in SLPath’s Phonological Treatment courses. Calina’s practice is neurodivergent-affirming, and she prioritizes the agency and autonomy of her clients. She continues to learn more about autistic and other neurodivergent perspectives and needs and looks forward to being more knowledgeable and sensitive in the years to come.

OSPI Clock Hours – 4.5 hours - You must attend the live sessions to obtain OSPI clock hours. No hours given for viewing of recording.

WSLHA charges a processing fee of $5.00 for ASHA CEUs ($7.00 non-members) and $5.00 for clock hours payable prior to the workshop.
